January 2018 - Simple(ish) and Calm(ish)

So far, 2018 has been simple and calm. We're hoping it stays that way. Our January and February calendars are currently pretty laid back with very few events/little traveling, which is really nice after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

What we've been up to this month...
Playing outside (in the FREEZING cold) and climbing on daddy's mulch pile...

Governor Deal declared Friday, January 5 as Georgia Football Day (ahead of the National Championship game on Monday, January 8) so we all dressed festively.

Ellis, too. But, he was grumpy having to get up to go to school so he refused to smile for the picture...

PUPPIES.

Two Hawk men...

Friday evening movie night snuggles...

Keeping BB-8 warm...

Puppies and Gracie keeping me warm while I nursed a brutal sinus headache...

Learning how old school wax seals worked...

Watching daddy melt the wax...

And seal the letter...

RF got to seal the next one...

Building a big, big, big tower in his (relatively) clean room...

Homemade rice krispie treats...just because. Luckily, I'm the only one in my house that eats them, so the whole pan was mine...

Keeping his crayon behind his ear (like his daddy does with his pencil when he's working on his woodworking projects) in case he needs to write something down while we are at Cracker Barrel.

Sitting in a bucket. Cutting newspaper.
I have no idea why.

Somebody fell down and got an ouchie and needed a pallet in the living room to rest on while watching TV - P.I.T.I.F.U.L.

Sweet brothers watching an episode of their favorite nature show before bed one night...

Wandering the snow-covered mountains during our day trip to NC...

Daddy and his littlest buddy rock climbing...

Building a Lego tower...

January 2018 mantle --- simple.

Climbing over the limbs from the tulip poplar tree that daddy limbed up...

And having fun watching daddy use the chainsaw...

A little play time together with their tank...

Sweet smiles after an at home haircut. RF got his haircut too, but was mad about it. GRUMP.

A rough Tuesday called for opening a bottle of wine and unwinding on the couch...

Just hanging out coloring on newspaper - with a permanent marker. UGH.

Received a notification one evening that school was cancelled for the next day for both myself and the boys and then woke up to this the next morning!

Gracie enjoying the snow!

Snow covered pansies...

My backdoor is used to seeing muddy boots, not snowy boots...

This is Teeny-Tiny (the green bead in the container). I have no clue where Ellis found it or why he is so interested in it, but he basically thinks its the best thing. Crazy kid.

After two days of being cooped up in the house, the boys had school, but I didn't! Full mug of coffee and headed to spend a ME day in Athens...

Wandering Target, Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx and Home Goods, eating at Panera, and enjoying a manicure all by myself...it was SO NICE and SO NEEDED. :-)

Manicure! Haven't had one of these is quite a while...

Looks like just a booth at a restaurant, right?
It's the first restaurant (Little Italy) in Athens where RA and I ate when we started dating...and the same booth we sat in all those years ago. I cannot go to Athens without stopping by and picking up a turkey and cheese sub. Friday night dinner was YUMMY!

Friday afternoon milkshake!

In my pajamas by 5:15 on Friday night. Not even sorry about it...

Saturday morning beagle snuggles..

Homemade waffles!

Relaxing on the couch with coffee, a warm blanket, and a warm beagle girl...

On the 20th of January, this little man turned 3.5! Seriously??? Three and a half? Gracious - time flies.

Cool Saturday afternoon with a glass of wine (in a Mason jar, again) lounging in the swing...

My boys hanging out at the fire pit...love these guys so much.

Boys and dogs piled on the couch watching Sunday morning cartoons...

He loves her so much...

Cabinet RA hung for me over my desk...

Spotted this fella outside my bedroom window one afternoon. We've seen him around the backyard over the last few days, too.

Mondays are crazy. Especially after being out for four days last week due to MLK day and the icy road situation due to the snow.

This isn't normal. They're in bed...willingly...at 5:00 in the afternoon. Something's up...

Snuggles on the couch with mama. FLU diagnosis the next morning...YUCK!

When the three-year old that has the flu wants to paint, you let them paint --- even if there's a big mess to clean up afterwards.

Beautiful GA sunset...

Seriously. NO. MORE. FLU.

Sweet boy...so sick, but still sweet(ish)

He loves his puppies and thankfully, they let him lay on them like a pillow.

These boys love their puppies and their puppies love to lounge with them.

He was quiet one afternoon and I found him at the dining room table practicing writing his name/letters.

Cuddled up on the back of the couch. They didn't leave the side of the boys while they were sick.

Cuddled up on the back of the couch taking care of me while I was down...

Sweet puppy...

She lays all over him...and he doesn't mind...

This science-minded boy got a new microscope...

He was SO excited. They looked at the slides that came with the microscope - skin of an onion, seed of some plant, and wing of an insect (I think)...

Ellis (scantily dressed as usual) got in on the action, too!

More puppy sweetness...

THANK GOODNESS for feeling well enough to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air! We've all needed it!

More nightly microscope time...

He LOVES this thing. We are looking for some more slides to get him because he has already gone through the ones that came with the kit. He even looked at a piece of his hair!

Unfortunately, RF got hit by a stomach bug the week after having the flu (GO AWAY SICKNESS!) and had to stay home from school for another day. It was a quick 24-hour thing, but still so pitiful to see him when he doesn't feel well. Luckily, he was very well cared for by three puppies and his daddy.

This little boy...sheesh. He makes me smile so much.

That devilish grin...we're in trouble with this one, folks...

Obsessed. That's the only way to describe RF's perspective of his microscope - he's obsessed with it.

Organizing his slides...

We are kicking January out and ushering in February with the hope (and big prayers) that this new month brings us health and the ability to get back to a normal routine! Oh, and Mid-Winter Break! YAY! A week of at the end of February is definitely something this mama is looking forward to. :-) Thanks for checking in on our little family!
