2018 - Week Thirty-Nine Photos

The last week of September was a fun one for the Hawks. We look forward to welcoming the month of October as we have some trips planned, Fall Break fun, and a birthday party celebrating a soon-to-be six year old boy!

Monday, September 24 - Backyard Fun

Cool(ish), sunny Monday afternoons call for hanging out in the hammock and playing in the backyard.

Tuesday, September 25 - First Cub Scout Badge

He is loving cub scouts and was so excited to earn his first cub scout badge! Great job, RF!

Wednesday, September 26 - Gracie the Protector

That's Gracie. And that's a turtle. When we were living in Mobile, a turtle wandered into our backyard and Charlie (our first beagle boy) would not leave it alone - trying to roll it across the yard, barking at it, etc. So, Ms. Gracie picked it up in her mouth and put it on the couch - the one place she knew Charlie couldn't get (he had a peg leg and couldn't jump up on our furniture) in order to protect it. Such a sweet-hearted girl Gracie is. :-)

Thursday, September 27 - Pizza Makers

When your kids decide they want to make their own dinner you let them go for it. Cheese for Ellis and pepperoni for RF.

Friday, September 28 - Surprise Trip to Nana's

When you get to mama's classroom on Friday afternoon and she tells you that you are headed to Nana and Babu's house for the weekend - lots of BIG SMILES!

Ellis was just as excited when he found out the exciting news!

Saturday, September 29 - Mani/Pedi

With the kiddos spending the weekend with their Nana and Babu, mama took full advantage of the day and spent some much needed time at both the hair and nail salon. A mani/pedi always make me feel so much more put together as does a trip to the hair salon (good-bye gray hairs!).

Sunday, September 30 - Daisy Mae

She can't not lay on him when he is sitting in his chair. She jumps in his lap and stretches herself out right across his chest. She loves RA, no doubt about it.

Thanks for checking in on our crew. We hope you have a great week!

2018 - Week Thirty-Eight Photos

This past week was a simple, yet busy one for the Hawk family with something on our calendar every day except Friday (other than work/school, of course). A recap is below.

Monday, September 17 - Pre-K Open House

Big smiles from Ellis as we attended his Pre-K Open House to see all of amazing things he is learning this year in big kid school!

Tuesday, September 18 - Cub Scouts

RF is participating in our local Cub Scout den/pack and got to build a catapult + is learning the Boy Scout Oath, Law, and Motto. He is having so much fun in Cub Scouts and while it makes for a late night for us on Tuesdays (meeting lasts from 7pm - 8pm, so it's usually 8:30/8:45 before he's in bed), it is worth it to see him enjoying himself and developing such positive relationships with other kids his age outside of school.

Wednesday, September 19 - Homecoming Plans

Fall in high schools = football and HOMECOMING. I'm in charge of the Homecoming Dance and this is what my board currently looks like as the Student Government Association officers and representatives work to plan and execute both the dance and spirit week. So much work on my part, but so worth it to see their ideas come to life and to see them making such great high school memories.

Thursday, September 20 - Kindergarten is Exhausting...

He is getting so big! And kindergarten is exhausting - in a good way! Each afternoon as we pick up Ellis, he usually takes a little cat nap.

Friday, September 21 - Christmas in September?

There's a Hallmark movie being filmed in Covington right now, so RF and I swung by one of the downtown sites, the Methodist church, to snap a photo Friday morning before school. RF thought it was so cool and said, "Our town is famous, mama!"

Saturday, September 22 - Holding Hands

Saturday morning snuggles and holding hands with Ellis...it's the best when they, without prompting, crawl up into your lap...

Sunday, September 23 - Coffee

Coffee is a BIG part of life in the Hawk house...multiple cups...everyday...all year long...
Right next to our coffee maker, Mr. Hawk framed a photograph from a John Wayne movie (The Quiet Man, I think) where he's drinking a cup of coffee with his sweetheart. We also found mini-American Roast Coffee cans from 1943 that show Norman Rockwell's Four Freedoms (you can see the original paintings up close here). We had the privilege of visiting the Normal Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts in 2012 when we were on our BabyMoon. :-)

This last week of September is pretty calm for us, which we will really enjoy as October through December is filled with events, birthdays, day trips, and enjoying the holidays together. :-)

2018 - Week Thirty-Seven Photos

After a weekend of traveling (full recap of our trip to Mobile is here), we kept things pretty simple this week in the Hawk house. :-) With no travel on our calendars for at least the next three weeks, we are excited about some down time at home as a family.

Monday, September 10 - Pre-Workout Smiles

Big smiles from Ellis as we were headed into the gym...

Tuesday, September 11 - Blast From the Past

As I wandered a local consignment sale to pick up clothes for winter for the boys, I stopped by the book section as RF is in the beginning stages of learning to read. This caught my eye. I read ALL of the Boxcar children books growing up - such great memories.

Wednesday, September 12 - Spider Lily

The old wives tale is that spider lilies are the sign that fall is starting. Apparently these little guys are confused because it is still BLAZING hot in Georgia.

Also, Happy Proposal Anniversary to RA and I - twelve years ago today he asked me to be his wife. :-)

And, today is my dad's 60th birthday - Happy Birthday, Papa - we love you!

Thursday, September 13 - LEGOs

I really, really love the creative things they build with LEGOS...

I do not love that this is what my living room floor looks like most afternoons...

Friday, September 14 - Back the Blue

In honor of Officer Matt Cooper (a local police officer who was seriously injured in the line of duty on Labor Day), we wore blue on Friday to support him in his recovery. We love our first responders and greatly appreciate the sacrifices that they (and their families) make every single day.

Saturday, September 15 - Saturday Morning Goodness

We went all out in the Hawk house Saturday morning - pancakes, eggs, and bacon are a great way to start the day!

Sunday, September 16 - His New Spot

Gus doesn't leave my side when I'm home. He has found a new spot that is right next to my chair. As I drank my coffee this morning, I was trying to figure out why he decided that this was his new go-to spot and then I realized that he is laying in the direct path, about three feet away, from one of our floor air conditioner vents.

Thanks for checking in on our family - we hope everyone has a great week!

A Weekend in Mobile

Not really a full weekend as we arrived in Mobile about lunch time on Saturday and were back on the road to Georgia by 9AM Sunday morning, but the short trip was definitely worth it.

The "weekend" started Thursday as Mr. Joe and Mrs. Margie came in town to have lunch with RF for Grandparents Day. Unfortunately, as they were coming into town, I received a call from Ellis's school that he was sick. So, Mr. Joe dropped Mrs. Margie off for lunch with RF and then picked up Ellis from school. After lunch was over, they swung by the house and picked up a few items for Ellis as well as the dogs and headed back to Perry as it was clear Ellis wasn't going to be well enough for school Friday. THANK GOODNESS for grandparents saving the day.

So, Thursday afternoon RF and I got to spend some time together and we decided to do a little shopping downtown (proceeds from multiple shops were going to our police officer that was wounded in the line of duty on Labor Day, Officer Matt Cooper), so to the Maddie Mae Toy Store and Scoops Ice Cream shop we went. After some shopping and ice cream, we went and ran around at Legion Park for a little while to enjoy the beautiful (HOT) afternoon weather.

Friday after school RA and RF packed the car while I straightened up inside and we set out to Perry. RA and RF dropped me off at a local manicurist while they rode to the house to drop off RF and then RA came back to get me and we had dinner with some friends at our favorite local Mexican restaurant. After a fun evening catching up, we headed home to rest as the next two days were going to be super busy with lots of driving.

Headed to Perry and he was mad because it was taking "657 hours" to get there...

Happy Friday!

A manicure always makes me feel so put together...

We hung out with a few of our friends and one of RA's high school buddies found this STUDLY photo of RA his senior year. Yes, that is my handsome husband in the white t-shirt and jeans in the middle of the photo.

Saturday morning RA and I got on the road to Mobile and arrived in town about lunchtime. I was nice and refreshed as I slept the ENTIRE FIVE HOUR drive. It was glorious. Thanks, RA for letting me sleep - apparently I needed it. :-)

We can't come into town without having brunch/lunch at Spot of Tea and this trip was no different. After lunch we headed over to our bed and breakfast for the night, Fort Conde Inn. When RA and I lived in Mobile from 2005 - 2007 we used to walk our dogs through Fort Conde village and talk about how beautiful the homes would be if someone would restore them. Thankfully, all of the homes in Fort Conde village have been purchased by a restoration developer and are being brought back to life. They are absolutely beautiful!

MOBILE!

Mobile has painted oysters all over downtown. This one sits right on Cathedral Square.

One of Mobile's best restaurants...

Loaded baked potato soup!

The beautiful Hall-Ford House, built in 1836, that is now Fort Conde Inn.

So beautifully restored and stately!

Simple wall decor and a pretty mantle...

Dining room + china cabinet...

Sideboard + another simple mantle...

Our room for the night...

Our mantle and fireplace...

I LOVE how simple each one is...

Simple furniture - the Hawks LOVE simple furniture...

Amazingly comfortable king sleigh bed...

Writing desk...

Cozy bathroom...

Another jacuzzi tub! I love a jacuzzi tub!

We spent the afternoon lounging and then got ready to head over to a local restaurant for my dad's surprise 60th birthday party. It was definitely a surprise to him and we had a great time celebrating him with friends and family.

Had to watch a few minutes of the Georgia game while we lounged...

And I worked on my speech for dad's birthday...

Taking in the view from the front balcony...

Upstairs hallway

Staircase looking down towards the front door...

Parlor...

Front sitting room...

Very calming blue + another gorgeous mantle...

Massive doors between the sitting room and the parlor...

We know how to do front porches in the south...

What a beautiful September day in Mobile!

Decorated for the party...

50s diner style...

Buffet of YUMMY diner food...
The rest of the buffet and the cakes in the background...

Happy Birthday, Papa!

Dad proped up on his camera...

RA and I had some fun...

Mom and her three girls...

Dad and his three angels...

Sunday morning we got up to enjoy an early breakfast before getting on the road to Perry to pick up the boys and dogs before heading back to Covington.

Table is set for breakfast!

Tea, coffee, juice, espresso...

Hot cup of coffee to start our day of driving...

And fruit, and biscuits, and muffins...

RA had the seafood eggs benedict...

I had the omelet - filled with spinach, tomatoes, and Conecuh sausage - and cheese grits...

I love him...

After five hours of driving, we made a pit stop. The Hawks can't go on a road trip without a stop at Waffle House...

The beagles are glad to be home!

We made it home, grabbed a quick dinner, prepared clothes/bookbags/lunches for Monday morning and headed on to bed as the weekend was a busy and tiring one.

We don't have any traveling on our schedule for the next month, so we will be enjoying time at home and crossing our fingers for some fall weather and more UGA football wins. :-)
