2018 - Week Eight Photos

This week was Mid-Winter Break for mama - whoop whoop! Monday and Tuesday the boys had school so I was able to get a few things done around the house. Mrs. Margie came in town to spend a few days with us so Tuesday we did some work in the backyard (photo below) and then headed downtown for lunch and a little shopping around the square. The rest of the week we enjoyed hanging at home relaxing and enjoying some down time. With March just around the corner, our calendar is filling up and there are no days off from school between next week and Spring Break (first week of April).

Monday, February 19 - Kiss

Tuesday, February 20 - Gift

Before...

 After...
This area of our backyard has bugged me since we moved into this house. It had become a dumping ground for toys and lawn equipment. So this week I gave a gift to myself --- I did a little landscaping to the area to make it a little more presentable. I still have a few touches to add once spring officially arrives, but I like it so much better now. A big thanks to my mom for helping me with the vision and Mrs. Margie for helping me make it a reality.

Wednesday, February 21 - Shape

It's rare to see their bedroom in this shape --- clean(ish)...

Thursday, February 22 - Significant Other

Headed out to dinner. He's my person and I'm his person. He makes me happy and always works to plan such great adventures for us. :-)

Friday, February 23 - I Love You

Apparently this dog missed his mama (because he loves me sooooooo much). He spent Thursday evening (RA and I were staying at a local B&B) wandering back and forth from the back door to our bed (where he sleeps) looking for me. Sweet little beagle boy. I do love him a whole bunch.

Saturday, February 24 - Thought-Provoking

I've shared this quote before, but its one of my favorites and is certainly thought-provoking if you think about it in context of relationships. This picture belonged to my grandparents and now hangs above RA's dresser. It is also engraved in our wedding bands. :-)

Sunday, February 25 - Giggles

He gives me the giggles. He decided to pretend that he was a dog and mimic one of the behaviors that our dogs do all the time (because they're lazy) which is to stick their heads out the doggie door and bark. No need to go out into the yard to bark when sticking your head outside will suffice. Crazy dogs (and kid!)

The Twelve Oaks Bed and Breakfast

RA surprised me for Valentine's Day with a stay at a local bed and breakfast that I've had my eye on since we moved here in 2015.

Built in 1836, The Twelve Oaks is one of the best examples of antebellum architecture in the South. It is absolutely beautiful. The owners have done a phenomenal job renovating and bringing this property back to its glory. We had a great time and although we were less than a mile and a half from our house, it was a great 24 hour stay-cation here in Covington, GA.

I explored the property before checking in. RA was still at work, but walked over (this B&B is right off the square) from his office a little later in the afternoon.

Absolutely stunning. This house was Twelve Oaks (Ashley's house) in Gone With The Wind, played a role in Vampire Diaries, as well as the soon to premiere Life of the Party (with Melissa McCarthy) as well as many, many, many more roles in the TV and movie world over the years.

Selfie.

Adorable wooden swing in the front yard...

Side view of the house with a nice little garden pond...

The property is FULL of gorgeous flowers. The camellias were blooming, the hydrangea bushes were as tall as me, and there were more azaleas than I could count.

Red camillas...

Variegated pink/red camellias...

Beautiful pinks, too...

Historic house kitty...

Now that is a front porch...

So stately yet modern. The entire property paid homage to the past while providing amenities and conveniences of the present...

After checking in, I wandered the inside of the home (12,000 square feet!). Beautiful staircase and crystal chandelier...

Staircase to the third floor and sitting area on the second floor...

Parlor with pocket doors --- I love historic houses.

Every room in the B&B is named after a film or TV show that was filmed at the property or in town. We stayed in the The Heat of the Night Suite.

Antique skeleton key to our room...

Gas fireplace and TV...

Amazing armoire and door to the bathroom...

Claw. Foot. Tub.
This is one thing I miss from our house in Mobile. I LOVE a claw foot tub.

Vintage + modern at the same time.
And fabulous L'Occitane products. OMG. They are amazing!

Effervescence bomb + a good book = a relaxing soak in a beautiful antique tub.

Private sun porch...

I turned on the TV for a few minutes before RA arrived and guess what show happened to be on the first channel that popped up on the TV? Coincidence?

RA arrived after work and we headed down to the parlor for Sippin' and Nibblin' Hour - WINE AND CHEESE!

All the cheeses. Give me all the chesses.

Selfie on the porch before heading out to wander the property for a little while...

Confederate Jasmine covered gate on the back of the property...

Isn't she gorgeous?

Wine + antebellum bed and breakfast = an amazing night away

Front porch sippin' and nibblin' with my handsome husband...

Such a handsome man.

We wandered up to the second story porch for a better view of the front of the property...

All changed and headed out for a nice, quiet evening downtown...

Ready for a fun night on the town with my man...

Drinks at Mystic Grill...

And dinner at RL's...
SUCH. GOOD. FOOD.

Friday morning breakfast in the dining room was so yummy - fresh yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage gravy and biscuits, OJ, and hot coffee.

We had an amazing time. It is so nice (and so important) to spend some one-on-one time with RA amidst the hustle and bustle of full-time work + two kids + life in general. I'm so thankful that Mrs. Margie and Mr. Joe hung out with the boys for the night and that RA is thoughtful enough to plan nights/trips like this for us.

We have a few more trips planned for this spring including a trip to Charlottesville, VA in April and Shaker Village in Kentucky in May.
