A Weekend in Mobile

Not really a full weekend as we arrived in Mobile about lunch time on Saturday and were back on the road to Georgia by 9AM Sunday morning, but the short trip was definitely worth it.

The "weekend" started Thursday as Mr. Joe and Mrs. Margie came in town to have lunch with RF for Grandparents Day. Unfortunately, as they were coming into town, I received a call from Ellis's school that he was sick. So, Mr. Joe dropped Mrs. Margie off for lunch with RF and then picked up Ellis from school. After lunch was over, they swung by the house and picked up a few items for Ellis as well as the dogs and headed back to Perry as it was clear Ellis wasn't going to be well enough for school Friday. THANK GOODNESS for grandparents saving the day.

So, Thursday afternoon RF and I got to spend some time together and we decided to do a little shopping downtown (proceeds from multiple shops were going to our police officer that was wounded in the line of duty on Labor Day, Officer Matt Cooper), so to the Maddie Mae Toy Store and Scoops Ice Cream shop we went. After some shopping and ice cream, we went and ran around at Legion Park for a little while to enjoy the beautiful (HOT) afternoon weather.

Friday after school RA and RF packed the car while I straightened up inside and we set out to Perry. RA and RF dropped me off at a local manicurist while they rode to the house to drop off RF and then RA came back to get me and we had dinner with some friends at our favorite local Mexican restaurant. After a fun evening catching up, we headed home to rest as the next two days were going to be super busy with lots of driving.

Headed to Perry and he was mad because it was taking "657 hours" to get there...

Happy Friday!

A manicure always makes me feel so put together...

We hung out with a few of our friends and one of RA's high school buddies found this STUDLY photo of RA his senior year. Yes, that is my handsome husband in the white t-shirt and jeans in the middle of the photo.

Saturday morning RA and I got on the road to Mobile and arrived in town about lunchtime. I was nice and refreshed as I slept the ENTIRE FIVE HOUR drive. It was glorious. Thanks, RA for letting me sleep - apparently I needed it. :-)

We can't come into town without having brunch/lunch at Spot of Tea and this trip was no different. After lunch we headed over to our bed and breakfast for the night, Fort Conde Inn. When RA and I lived in Mobile from 2005 - 2007 we used to walk our dogs through Fort Conde village and talk about how beautiful the homes would be if someone would restore them. Thankfully, all of the homes in Fort Conde village have been purchased by a restoration developer and are being brought back to life. They are absolutely beautiful!

MOBILE!

Mobile has painted oysters all over downtown. This one sits right on Cathedral Square.

One of Mobile's best restaurants...

Loaded baked potato soup!

The beautiful Hall-Ford House, built in 1836, that is now Fort Conde Inn.

So beautifully restored and stately!

We spent the afternoon lounging and then got ready to head over to a local restaurant for my dad's surprise 60th birthday party. It was definitely a surprise to him and we had a great time celebrating him with friends and family.

Had to watch a few minutes of the Georgia game while we lounged...

And I worked on my speech for dad's birthday...

Sunday morning we got up to enjoy an early breakfast before getting on the road to Perry to pick up the boys and dogs before heading back to Covington.

Table is set for breakfast!

Tea, coffee, juice, espresso...

Hot cup of coffee to start our day of driving...

And fruit, and biscuits, and muffins...

RA had the seafood eggs benedict...

I had the omelet - filled with spinach, tomatoes, and Conecuh sausage - and cheese grits...

I love him...

After five hours of driving, we made a pit stop. The Hawks can't go on a road trip without a stop at Waffle House...

The beagles are glad to be home!

We made it home, grabbed a quick dinner, prepared clothes/bookbags/lunches for Monday morning and headed on to bed as the weekend was a busy and tiring one.

We don't have any traveling on our schedule for the next month, so we will be enjoying time at home and crossing our fingers for some fall weather and more UGA football wins. :-)
